So I’m going to stop nattering your ear off about heart health; I’ve beaten that horse to its demise this month. But that isn’t to say that the cause isn’t important- far from it; but March ushers in another month, Nutrition month.
The old adage “You are what you eat” is so very true; and I aim to make nutrition approachable and flavorful. It essential that healthy food taste delicious, wouldn’t you say? Which is why I endeavor to show how natural foods can be even better than fast food- “fast food” may as well be a four letter word around these parts?
The reason I am so gaga over smoothies is their efficiency; so many nutrients in one delivery. Try getting a child to sit down to plates full of vegetables (the horror); but put a pink smoothie in front of them and BOOM it’s gone before you can say “sip”. As far as adults go, we need real fuel in order to work, play, and live an energy filled life; so smoothies are perfect because, again, they are efficient- we have enough to do already, it’s nice to have quick and healthy fuel options.
This matcha smoothie couldn’t be a better way to fuel up. Matcha is touted as the “elixir of the immortals”; and for good reason. This bright emerald powder is 10 times stronger than regular brewed green tea; and because Matcha is in powder form, we consume the whole leaf and therefore we also get a healthy dose of fiber.
Feeling a little under the weather? Then Matcha is for you! It contains more antioxidant activity than blueberries, more beta carotene than spinach; and 100 times more Vitamin C than oranges- move over guys, there’s a new immunity booster in town!
Unlike coffee, matcha is considered a “slow burn”; meaning our bodies metabolize it over 3-6 hours, which helps stave off the coffee slump. And this elixir has long been used to promote mental clarity and focus.

I will say more! I came up with the idea for this smoothie while I was sipping on my morning almond milk matcha latte; the heat was cranked up in my house and I was sweating buckets, but I wanted to finish my drink. And then it was as if the lights came on in a darkened room; “Why not chill this and blend with berries?”

Matcha Raspberry Smoothie
¾ cup prepared Matcha Latte <–click for recipe
1 cup frozen raspberries
Combine all ingredients, and blend until smooth.
